Buying guide

What to check before buying a used KTM

Before you pay for a second-hand KTM two-wheeler, verify these 6 things from the registration number alone.

Owner verification

Match the registered owner's first name + city against the seller's ID. If they don't match, the seller may not be the actual owner.

Pending challans

Pay all pending challans before transfer. Otherwise they pass to you and block the new RC issue.

Hypothecation status

If 'HP' appears in RC, vehicle is on loan. Get NOC from financier before paying full amount.

Insurance & PUC

Check policy validity. Expired insurance / PUC means immediate renewal cost on you.

Chassis & engine match

Open the bonnet — chassis number must match RC exactly. Mismatch = stolen or rebuilt.

Service history

Ask for KTM authorised service book. Reveals accident repairs and odometer accuracy.

FAQ

KTM vehicle lookup — frequently asked questions

Does the Vehicle Information app work for all KTM models?
Yes. Every KTM vehicle ever registered in India is in the VAHAN database and looks up correctly through the app — current models like Duke 200 as well as older models that are no longer in production.
Can I check a used KTM vehicle's accident history?
The VAHAN / Parivahan database does not store accident history. For that you need: (1) the KTM authorised service centre records, or (2) an insurance claim history from the insurer. The app shows you the current insurance status which is a useful starting point.
How do I find the engine number of a KTM vehicle?
The engine number is stamped on the engine block (visible after opening the bonnet). It's also printed on the RC. The Vehicle Information app shows the engine number in the RC tab.
Are KTM two-wheelers available with BH (Bharat) series plates?
Yes — eligible owners (Govt / defence / PSU / 4-state private employees) can register a new KTM vehicle directly with BH series at any RTO. See our BH series guide for eligibility.
Where can I service my KTM vehicle in India?
KTM has a network of authorised service centres across India — visit the official KTM India website to find the nearest one. The Vehicle Information app does not maintain a service centre directory.
