Step 1 — File a police complaint (if lost / stolen)
Visit your nearest police station and file a non-cognizable complaint (NC). Get a copy of the FIR / NC. This is mandatory before applying for duplicate RC.
Step 2 — Fill Form 26
Form 26 = application for duplicate RC. Download from parivahan.gov.in or get from RTO. Attach: police FIR copy, ID proof (Aadhaar), address proof, insurance copy, PUC, chassis number imprint (pencil rubbing on paper).
Step 3 — NOC from financier
If your vehicle is on loan, get a No-Objection-Certificate from the bank/NBFC. Without it, the duplicate RC will not be issued.
Step 4 — Apply on Parivahan
Visit parivahan.gov.in → 'Online Services' → 'Vehicle Related Services' → choose state → 'Issue of Duplicate RC'. Upload all documents, pay fee (~₹500-₹1500 depending on vehicle class).
Step 5 — Receive smart-card RC by post
After RTO verification (typically 7-21 days), the new smart-card RC is dispatched by speed post. Track status on Parivahan.
