Frequently asked questions

Can I pay RTO fees online?
Yes, most states (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu) accept payment via parivahan.gov.in for RC, fitness, transfer and duplicate. Some still require an in-person visit.
Do fees vary by state?
Application fees are uniform (CMV Rules), but state taxes (road tax, registration tax, green cess) vary widely. Karnataka and Maharashtra are highest; UP and West Bengal lower.
Is GST applicable?
No, RTO statutory fees are exempt from GST. Smart card material fees and private agent fees may attract GST.
Can I get a refund of paid fees if rejected?
Application fees are non-refundable. Road tax and registration tax can be refunded pro-rata if you transfer to another state.
How to verify the official fee?
Always check parivahan.gov.in for the latest. Beware of agents quoting inflated 'service charges' beyond the official fee.
